Reader Question from Danny in Murray, Utah

I am a guard that plays on the perimeter for my high school team.  I was wondering if you could help me and all the other players who have problem with their mental game.  What steps can I take to improve the mental part of my game?

Duckett's Response

Dear Danny,

To reach your potential and master the mental aspects of the game of basketball, you must commit and pursue excellence on a daily basis.

“If it’s to be; it’s up to me!”

1. Winners expect to win in advance.
2. You become what you expect.
3. You must be driven by desire.
4. You can never outgrow your limits.
You must always set new limits.
5. Game plan for life – all winners have one.
6. What are your goals for Life!
You are only committed to what you confess.
      Write the visions.
7. You must take responsibility for what you have and what you don’t have.
8. Practice does not make perfect; it makes permanent.
9. Successful people know their own worth.  “Who can? I can!”
10. The instruction you follow determines the future you create!

Danny your ability to stay focused and change your routine to stay motivated will help you reach your potential.  Your mental game will improve when you can look back at all the time you have spent in the gym and know that you have worked harder than everyone else.

Best wishes for continued success,

Rick Duckett
