Question: I just finished my first year on the freshman basketball team. Since my season just ended, I made becoming strong, fast, and well conditioned my top priorities for next year. I see how those guys in the NBA (LeBron, Kobe, DWade) get to the rim so easily and I believe their strength and physical ability is a major part of it. I’ve heard a lot about kids my age (14) not supposed to weight train. I was just wondering your thoughts on weight training for kids my age. If you think kids should, then how much weight, reps etc? Also what kind of routine would be good to get in perfect physical shape for next year? I'm willing to do whatever it takes to become like those NBA stars (in time) and get to the hoop like them.

Question For: Rick Barry
Asked By: Adam - Jericho, NY
Question: When a defender plays me tightly my first thought is to drive. When a defender plays me loosely I shoot, but what confuses me is when the defender is in that middle area where he can challenge my shot (because of superior athleticism or size since I lack size), and also play the drive as a result of being a safe distance from me. Being a great scorer yourself what was your read when the defender played you in that middle area where he can challenge both the shot and the drive and what can someone who lacks size do to get their shot off when the defender is in that area? Thanks for your help.

Question For: Melissa Barlow
Asked By: Anonymous High School Coach
Question: I am a high school coach and recently my team was involved in a nail biter. When the buzzer sounded, we had pulled out a two-point victory - or so we thought. One of my players being overly excited jumped up and down (and might have said some things to the opponents - I'm not sure). The ref (after the clock had hit 0:00) gave him a technical foul and then literally cleared the floor and allowed the other team to shoot the technical shots. Ultimately, the free throws were made and we lost in overtime. Being under the impression that we were unfairly assessed a technical, I protested, garnering the official's response, "I make the rules on this court." I guess when it comes down to it, my question is this - does a referee have any official authority once the clock strikes 0?
